STARS is the acronym for State
Training
And
Registry System
STARS is a career development system designed to improve child care through basic and ongoing training for child care providers. The Department of Early Learning (DEL) administers the STARS Registry, a web-based database that tracks provider records. WAEYC is contracted to oversee the STARS scholarship program.
MERIT
The Managed Education and Registry Information Tool (MERIT) is the new online statewide training database administered by the Department of Early Learning (DEL) for early learning professionals, STARS-approved trainers and training organizations and DEL staff.
MERIT is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and tracks STARS-approved training, employment and educational information. MERIT also serves as part of Washington’s professional development system.
What’s the difference between MERIT and STARS?
MERIT is the tool to help track early learning professionals’ education, training and professional development and it houses the STARS-approved trainings, trainers and training organizations. The State Training and Registry System (STARS) regulates the licensing and training requirements that are in statute for child care providers in Washington.
STARS ID numbers are now required for recording completed STARS training.
To find out your STARS ID number, go to: https://apps.del.wa.gov/merit/
To apply for a STARS ID number and MERIT account, go to merit.del.wa.gov
